Description
TRC Trails was contracted by the Narrandera Shire Council to upgrade the Bundiggery walking trail. The aim of this project was to upgrade/improve the Bundiggery walking trail access and usability, to enhance the users experience along the Lake Talbot foreshore. The main objective of this project was to create a better drainage system at key points along the track, remove and replace the old washed out wooden sleeper stairs with natural rocks found onsite as well as widen the trail to a 1.2m width to allow the trail to become a shared–use trail.
Challenges
- The largest challenge of this project was to replace the existing staircase with natural rock found on site, due to the challenging terrain this made it hard for the team to access and move rock into position without causing harm to the environment or potential members of the public.
- Moving imported rock from a nearby worksite to location in a safe manner.
- Keeping the trail open at all times for public access and usage while operating machinery, and other hand tools, i.e. chainsaws, powerbarrows, whipper snippers etc.
- A short time frame and a small team meant everyone had to be focussed and efficient during the project.
The TRC Trail sent a small crew to overcome the challenges of this project by working to their individual strengths as a team to complete this project in a timely manner and delivered a brilliantly resurfaced train while meeting the company’s goals and values of remaining sustainable and bringing a harmonious balance between the trail user and nature.
